Volunteer at Rose City Kids

HOSTING

Hosting is a vital part of the Rose City Kids program. Every child needs to feel special, valued, and encouraged when they come into the program. 
Responsibilities
The job of the hosts is to ensure that this happens! As a host you will connect with the kids through the program by sitting with them, encouraging them to take part, ask about them – get to know them, encourage them in their Christian walk, help answer questions.

WORSHIP

Worship is an essential area to the children’s spiritual development. Children’s best way of learning is through singing! The worship creates an atmosphere for kids to get to know Jesus a little bit better!
Responsibilities
To create a fun atmosphere where children can feel free to worship  God. The worship group creates excitement and encourages the kids to sing and dance. The worship group are fun and lively!
  • Attend Bi Weekly practices
  • Attend practices on Bi Weekly Saturdays

MEDIA

Media is the glue holding the program together. Lights, sound and video are the core of the program. Media keeps the kids interested and makes the program fun!
Responsibilities
Sound and lighting are a great resource to make games, worship and lessons fun.
  • Set up and pack down of equipment
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Operating equipment for sound, song lyrics, videos and lighting
  • Sound checks
  • Filming and editing videos

ONSTAGE

Onstage is where all of the action happens. Worship, lessons, and games. Onstage work has to be vibrant and fun. This is where the kids are focused during the program. From beginning to end this is where you have to grab their attention.
Responsibilities
Being onstage gives you the responsibility to set an atmosphere for the program. You can liven up or quiet down a crowd, make them laugh or make them think!  Being onstage is defiantly the most fun place to be!
  • Present object lessons, pray

BUSES

Our bus system is the most effective way to get to know the kids! The kids get picked up at their houses on each route. When they enter the bus they are signed in and given a wristband. While on the bus, the team builds relationship with the kids. When the bus arrives at the program, the children exit single file and enter the theatre where the program begins. When the program ends, the children are lined up according to their bus colour. The kids and the bus teams return to their buses and perform a head count, and bring the kids home. As the kids leave, they are given a “bus treat”, and are signed out.

Responsibilities
As a bus volunteer, you have an awesome opportunity to build relationships with each of the kids that come to Rose City Kids. 
  • Connect with the kids // sit with them // play games with them
  • Keep the children seated throughout the bus journey
  • Sign children in, hand each child a wristband, distribute bus treats
  • When exiting the bus, assist the children in a single file exit towards the theatre.
  • Help line up the children at the end of the program.
  • Perform a head count

LUNCH

Lunch is a critical part of the program as it provides a child’s physical need. Many of the children come to Rose City Kids hungry.
Responsibilities
As part of the lunch team, you will prepare and hand out food to every child in the program.
  • Prepare different meals [ hamburgers, subs, pizza, wraps etc.]
  • Deliver lunch to the children
  • Clean up the kitchen & dishes

JUNIOR LEADERSHIP

Junior Leadership is the place where preteens have the opportunity to build leadership skills, learn about Jesus, and volunteer through the Rose City Kids program.
Responsibilities
As a volunteer through the Junior Leadership program, you will have the opportunity to connect with older children and build up future leaders through a games, a curriculum, and hands on work.
  • Connect with the kids
  • Lead games
  • Lead discussions
  • Teach through object lessons

SECURITY

Security is so important as it allows Rose City Kids to be a safe and secure place for parents to send their children. Security ensures only volunteers, children, and permitted visitors to enter the program.
Responsibilities
Being a part of the security team gives you the responsibility to ensure safety for the children and for the volunteers. Safety includes many different areas.
  • Don’t allow anyone to pass the registration area without a Rose City Kids  t-shirt, vest, or visitor badge.
  • Don’t allow any child to exit the door without their parent
  • Maintain control during the program
  • Aid the washroom team when needed

WASHROOM DUTY

Washroom duty is provided during the Rose City Kids Saturday program. This is where volunteers monitor who is in the washroom, and how many are in the washroom. 
Responsibilities-
As a team of two, you are given the responsibility of monitoring the inflow/outflow of the washrooms.  
  • Keep tabs on how many kids are in the washroom at once
  • Keep control of the kids inside & outside of the washroom

REGISTRATION

Registration is where children are signed in and out of the program if they did not take a bus. There are a number of children that get dropped off at the program, and need to be registered before they can enter. Its important to keep count of how many kids are there, as well it provides us with security, knowing who is picking up each child.
Responsibilities
As a part of the registration team, there are different jobs to perform in signing a child in and out. 
  • Connect with the parents and kids as they enter
  • Sign each child in
  • Give each child a name tag and wristband
  • Record the name of the parent that will be picking their child up
  • Have a parent SIGN [with signature] their child out.
  • Hand each child a “bus treat” as they leave.

HOME VISITS

Home Visits is an opportunity for us to build relationships with the kids and families outside of the Saturday program. Relationships is a key part of making Rose City Kids successful. We are able to build a trust between the volunteers of the program, and the parents of each child.
Responsibilities
Through home visits you have an incredible opportunity to build long lasting relationships with a lot of families from Rose City Kids. Home visits is one of the most rewarding parts of Rose City Kids. You, along with another volunteer, are given a number of houses to visit one evening, biweekly. You visit each house and give each child an activity sheet and track your visits on a visitation form and hand it back in at the Rose City Kids Park Theatre.
  • Volunteer at the Saturday program
  • Conduct home visits on Thursday evenings [biweekly]
  • Fill out visitation forms
  • Hand out activity sheets
  • Hand out birthday & Christmas gifts [when applicable]
  • Report any necessary information to the home visits team leader

TUTORING

Tutoring is provided once a week for up to 15 children in a 10-week session. This allows children to work one on one with a tutor in order to improve their confidence and grades in schoolwork.
Responsibilities
As a part of our tutoring program, you have the opportunity to use your knowledge and skills to teach children who may be struggling in school. This is an opportunity for you to build confidence in children, and watch them develop an understanding in a difficult subject. 
  • Be available Wednesday afternoons for tutoring
  • Work one on one with a child in a specific subject
  • Build confidence in each child
  • Work with a child at their level
  • Be flexible
  • Record each tutoring session
  • Report any concerns to the team leader
  • If necessary- communicate with parents
